Anti-War Activists

If the vocal opposition to the Iraqi liberation were anything but political, I might feel compelled to respond to some of the questions raised by the anti-war crowd. We must bear in mind, however, that lots of these people are cognitively challenged. Not quite right. These people think that the chicken holocaust is on a par with the Jewish one. These people think your goldfish have rights. These people support moral decadence at home while supporting cultures that stone adulterers to death. These are people who champion women's rights while supporting cultures that won't let women vote, drive cars, get educations or date. These people think communism was a good idea in theory. These people support abortion on demand while supporting cultures that make pre-marital sex a crime. These are people who oppose global trade, but think everything else must have the approval of the United Nations. A lot of these people voted for Ralph Nader for President. These are not people overburdened with common sense.

Such thinking demands that any person possessing a rational mind, view them as delusional at best. In order to deal with their objections to the current conflict, given the irrational premises of a lot of their core beliefs, one must suspend the foundations of reason and descend briefly into their world of fantasy and the absurd. They are a tragic lot and were I inclined towards blind compassion, I might suggest they seek help from the many mental health facilities we have in this country.

The protestors and "activists" assert that we should avoid causing the deaths of innocent civilians and at the same time avoid having any American casualties. These two positions are mutually exclusive. There is a sliding scale starting at a point with no American casualties and loads of civilian deaths and as you move up the scale towards zero civilian deaths, American casualties increase. In order for the war to be politically correct in these times of global "wussydom" the United States military must exercise reckless disregard for the safety of our own soldiers in order to protect the non-combatants of the enemy country. Madness!

This is a new facet of war that has been thrust upon the world by people who see no difference between their fellow citizens and the citizens of the enemy country. As a matter of fact, the word "enemy" has all but disappeared from the lexicon of appropriate words. This new thinking is called relativism. It embraces the notion that all similar acts are equal and must remain free from value judgments. So the murder of an innocent child has the same weight and worth as the execution of the killer of that child. It is a philosophy so utterly void of reason and morality, that those who subscribe to it barely reach my definition of human.

So, in the context of the war with Iraq, those who equate your goldfish with your child, see the ongoing oppression, murder and rape of a nation less important than risking the death of a ruthless dictator. However, like I said at the beginning of this column…their entire argument is politically anchored in their hatred of the President. It is because the President is a Republican, a conservative and a Christian. They don't really care about the people of Iraq, or the plight of children, or the rights of women…they only care that the conservative is discredited. Our last President did pretty much the same thing in Serbia, bombing that country to free people from a ruthless dictator. But he was a member of the political left and thus immune to their ire and hatred. People being bombed by the political left without the approval of the United Nations is perfectly fine. The slaughter of a million people in Rwanda was okay too. It is only when a conservative does something to help people that these people get upset. Theirs is not a principled stand for peace. It is a politically motivated knee jerk reaction to their political enemy. They see those who think like George W. Bush as the biggest threat because he represents national sovereignty, national strength, personal responsibility, individualism and economic liberty. They hate that.
