Targeting the Left

A great deal hand wringing and generalized grumbling is occurring worldwide over the issue of the President of the United States' insistence on self-governance and self-defense without the approval of the international community. I for one have a few questions. Why does anyone care what the United Nations thinks? Why does anyone care what the French think? Why does anyone care what Martin Sheen thinks? Why would anyone care if the idiots calling themselves human shields vaporize into a bloody mist when the first smart bombs hit the oil refineries near Baghdad? I certainly don't.

First of all, the United Nations is little more than a money pit, taking up valuable real estate in New York City. Land that could be better utilized as a land fill or a toxic waste dump. The U.N. is an organization that has placed Syria on the Security Council, given France veto power, put Libya on the Human Rights Committee and proposes to put Iraq on the disarmament committee. These people are truly without any semblance of intelligence or common sense. Yet the political left fawn over them like they were a collection of geniuses. Of course the political left think Al Gore should have been President, think of Martin Sheen as an expert on foreign policy and invites actresses who play farm wives in movies to testify before the Senate Agriculture Committee. We aren't talking about a think tank here. More like a septic tank.

Then we have the French. This is a country that would have to build its war hero museum off shore. A nation of people whose main contribution to World War II, aside from surrendering, was the Vichy collaborators who helped the Nazi's murder Jews. A regular pillar of international society.

I am puzzled by the actions of the terrorists though. I am certain that the average terrorist is ten times smarter than your smartest American anti-war protester. It is the stated goal of the Islamic terrorist organizations that they wish to start a holy war between the free west and the oppressive tenants of radical Islam. To accomplish this goal they have murdered Americans on American soil thus gaining the undying support of Hollywood, CNN and the Democratic Presidential hopefuls. Now it seems to me, that if they really wanted to start a war with the west, they should target Hollywood, CNN and the anti-war demonstrators. After all, the only thing preventing most of the Middle East from disappearing in a vaporous cloud of nuclear debris is the fear our leaders have that the Hollywood types might end up before a Congressional committee crying about dead Iraqis. So if the goal is a unified declaration of war against Islamic fundamentalism, maybe they should redirect their ire from symbols of capitalism and towards symbols of western decadence and hedonism….like, I don't know….Berkeley? PETA Headquarters? The DNC? Paris?

I do have some qualms about the direction of our foreign policy though. I cannot believe that George W. Bush has let this drag on so long. Since it was evident early on that he would be called reckless and a warmonger, he shouldn't have burned all the early political capital by delaying the attack on Iraq. As it is, he has allowed the idea of appeasement to fester among the "surrender at all costs" crowd at the United Nations. This spread to the Universities, where liberal students, snotty little rich kids who feel left out of the 60s, are dusting off their parents' peace symbols and slogans so they can appear relevant on the ABC Evening News with Peter Jennings, a Canadian. Bush should have flattened most of Iraq back in September. Let the inspectors sift though the rubble.

Now what will happen is that the United Nations with the veto of France, Russia and that bastion of human freedom China, will forbid the United States from enforcing UN resolutions in Iraq. The United States will do the smart thing and ignore the UN, conquer Iraq over a weekend, and we will get to see the celebrations of the Iraqi people on Fox News while the networks and CNN search scorched areas of oil refineries for remnants of human shields and their reporters.
