Representative Democracy is dead in the State
of Texas and apparently there is nothing the people or our
elected representatives can or are willing to do about it. The
Democrat Party has determined that if the Republicans won't do
as the Democrats say, then they will take their ball and leave
the state. I would say "good riddance to bad rubbish" if they
would leave the state and stay gone. But they will wait out the
special session of the legislature come back to the cheering
crowds of rank and file Democrats who aren't smart enough to
realize that what has been done isn't honorable; of course the
Democrats abandoned honorability long ago.
I vented my frustration by sending emails to
the Democrat's offices and to my representatives in government
as well. The Democrats think they have the state of Texas over a
barrel and listening to the hand wringing of the Republicans
they may have a point. If the government can shut down because
the Democrats don't want to play and there is nothing to be done
about it; then our form of government may have indeed ran its
course and we should perhaps think of alternatives to
representative forms of government. When the American colonists
determined they were not being fairly served by the "legitimate"
government, they staged a revolution and threw the scum off the
continent. We are not being served by the "legitimate"
government either--perhaps it is time to turn out the whole
lot--by any means necessary. Thomas Jefferson taught us that
sometimes the violent overthrow of tyrants is a good thing. It
has been over 200 years and I believe such a solution is quickly
becoming self evident and necessary. The current morass isn't a
tyranny in the sense of a dictatorial strongman but rather the
tyranny of a crying 2-year-old.
I for one am pretty tired of having my
beliefs compromised by arriving at a consensus with people who
hold views that I believe to be harmful to my family and my
country. I think that the nation has been so polarized that it
will be much easier to rebuild it than to fix it. If a portion
of the government can simply stay away and bring democracy to a
standstill and if there is no redress by the government or the
people, then that government is illegitimate and no longer
enjoys the consent of the governed. It is time for a new
Declaration of Independence. It is time for this country to
divide into two parts. One will be free and other socialist.
Both countries can use the same Constitution--the free country
will use it as a limitation on government as it was intended and
the socialist country can use it as the government services
catalog it has become.
This can be achieved peacefully if it is done
soon. Right now there is relative parity between those who pay
the bills and those who pay nothing. The earns and the earns
not's represent approximately 50% each of the population. Soon
the majority will not pay income taxes and will be net consumers
of government. At that point, they will resist letting the
independent minded pursue their own destiny. They will hold us
as economic slaves to pay for their services. The window for
leaving will be left open only a short time. What isn't
understood by the political left is that no one as a right to
the actions and economic property of others. It really doesn't
matter if they understand it or not. They believe, and are
constantly saying that they are entitled to their needs and that
those needs must be provided by the government. Since the
government doesn't make money but merely collects it from the
people, then those who use more services than they provide are
telling the people that the efforts of the productive must be
made available to the unproductive under threat of force.
I am a person who loves the idea of
America--I loved the country that it was but not the one it has
become. We are losing our freedoms because we have allowed the
government to grow unbridled until it now takes more than half
the earnings of the productive. We have allowed our
representatives to ignore the limitations placed on them by the
Constitution. We have allowed the courts to twist the meanings
of the founding fathers into a grotesque parody of liberty.
There is a change on the wind.
