Useful Idiots

It was Lenin who coined the phrase "Useful Idiot" shortly after the Soviet Revolution drove Russia into a 75-year nightmare of oppression and despair. "Useful idiots" were those gullible, well-intentioned people in Western democracies who became apologists for the, shall we say, excesses of the new Soviet regime. You know, things like murdering dissenters, torture, rape, exile into gulags, etc. They helped Lenin and friends deflect any criticism over things like carrying out three times more political executions in three months than the czars had from 1825-1917.

The useful idiots didn't go away after the fall of Soviet Communism; they simply broadened their horizons and became apologists for other forms of brutality. It really doesn't matter how reprehensible the cause or the people they support, all the useful idiot requires is that the United States gets pegged as the bad guy. These are not principled people generally. They will protest a conservative Christian group for not wanting women ordained but will support entire countries that won't let a woman out of the house without a man present just so long the cause is one they approve of--and like I said, the only cause requirement is that the United States is always wrong and the left wing "tyrant of the week" is always right.

The Palestinian cause is the latest bandwagon these people have jumped on. They are willing to look the other way as little Jewish kids are blown into small parts on buses and school grounds, but when the Israelis fight back and kill some Hamas scum of the earth terrorist leader, they have their tears at the ready to deplore the violence. It would be laughable were it not for the fact that their support often results in monetary help. Having been so fooled, they don't even realize their complicity in the crime when their financial help funds the next homicide bomber.

Now my complaint isn't about non-violence per se--I suppose if you are simply against violence as a rule that is okay--so long as you don't stand idly by as innocent people are enslaved by your cause of the month. The problem with the current crop of "useful idiots"--professional pacifists, human shields, peace activists, etc. is that they are willing to look the other way as brutal dictatorial regimes kill indiscriminately just so they can make the point that the United States is a horrible country.

During the Vietnam era, these Cretins claimed that the communists were merely a popular uprising of simple peasants trying to throw off the yoke of western imperialism and big oil--God that sounds familiar. So the United States, instead of bombing the commies into the Stone Age, as we should have, pulled out of the region and what did the communists do? They proceeded to enslave those who opposed them, killed off whole populations of ethnic tribal peoples, murdered over a million people in Cambodia and turned the entire region into a killing field and economic disaster. Way to go liberals!

A new crop of "useful idiot" has appeared on the scene of late and these are known as the "human shields." These are people who think it is a good idea when two nations are on the brink of a shooting war to put themselves between the warring factions under this misguided belief that either side cares for their safety. Personally I think it is a good way to clean up the gene pool and further the upward march of human evolution. One of these Einsteins got herself killed in the Gaza strip not long ago, trying to keep the Israeli army from bulldozing some suicide bomber's house. I think the Israelis have shown a lot of restraint by not using airstrikes to remove these houses. Armored bulldozers move pretty slow and getting up and getting out of the way is an action of any prudent person.

So now, the "useful idiots" of the left are going to support the Palestinian cause believing that if given the chance, the Moslems would not wipe Israel off the face of the earth--basically they are engaging in helping the Arab world finish what the Nazis failed to do in WWII--a politically correct final solution.
