You were
probably just as surprised as me when
you learned that the government in the
form of the Environmental Protection
Agency recently classified Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) as a major
hazard to Americans' health. "In both
magnitude and probability, climate
change is an enormous problem (and) the
greenhouse gases that are responsible
for it endangered public health and
welfare," said the EPA, concluding the
dangers warrant action under federal air
pollution laws
Whenever
the government says something like this,
I immediately think that they believe
they have come up with a winning tax
scheme and that they’re planning a huge
transfer of money from the people to
them. The very last thing that enters
my mind is that what they are saying
contains anything resembling the truth.
This CO2
pronouncement is necessary in order for
the government plan to institute Obama’s
“Cap and Trade” plan. President Barack
Obama’s budget plan assumes $78.7
billion in revenue in 2012 from the sale
of greenhouse-gas emission permits to
polluters, putting pressure on Congress
to pass legislation by early next year.
Kim
Chipman and Catherine Dodge wrote in the
Bloomberg Press, “A ‘cap-and-trade’
program would generate a total of $645.7
billion by 2019, according to the budget
blueprint Obama sent to Congress today.
Initial funds would be used to invest in
‘clean’ energy, help finance Obama’s tax
credit for workers as well as offset
higher energy costs for low- and
middle-income people and clean up costs
for small businesses. “Invest” is
Democrat for Spend.
The budget
calls for the Environmental Protection
Agency to get $19 million to begin
setting up an inventory of greenhouse-
gas emissions that most scientists say
are causing rising temperatures and sea
levels. Obama has asked Congress to send
him a bill that would create an
emissions trading system, putting a
mandatory cap on carbon-dioxide
pollution nationwide for the first time
in the U.S.”
John
Interval, writing in the Pennsylvania
based Patriot News said, “Europe adopted
Cap and Trade four years ago but has yet
to produce benefits. In Europe, energy
prices have skyrocketed, economic
competitiveness has drained away, many
jobs have been lost and investment has
gone elsewhere. Worse still, Europe's
carbon emissions have increased.
To avoid
burdening its economies with high costs,
the European Union issued carbon permits
to some politically connected companies
at no charge. The companies then sold
their permits to other businesses at a
huge profit. The result was that those
companies had no incentive to develop
technologies for controlling emissions,
such as carbon capture-and-storage. Yet
they went ahead anyway and raised fuel
and electricity prices.
The
European Union's blunders, however, have
not dissuaded the Obama administration
and its congressional allies from
pushing for a cap-and-trade system.”
To my way
of thinking, the European Union knows
the scheme is unworkable, but they don’t
care. They need the money to fund their
socialist system that pays parasites for
doing nothing.
This suits
the Obama administration. It has a lot
of well-connected contributors to reward
and a lot of parasitic voters that are
waiting for their share of Obama’s
“Spread the Wealth” campaign promise.
The
saddest part of this is that the whole
thing is a fraud. It’s based on junk
science. CO2 isn’t a
pollutant—plants live on it. Global
Warming, or whatever they are calling it
today is utter nonsense. It was dreamed
up by scientists who live on government
research grants and kept alive by
environmental activists with an
uncontrollable desire to return the
country to the sixteenth
century—everyone but themselves. Once
certain political groups learned they
could use it to raise taxes, they
adopted it as their own. I fully expect
them to eventually charge us every time
we exhale.
